Everyone wants their yards to be appealing and pristine. However, maintaining yards on your own can be difficult. Depending on the time of year, your lawn may require a different approach; as landscapers, how we water and nurture plants, and support each property’s environment that we work on, has to adapt to changing temperatures, seasons, and other factors. We are well-versed in the intricacies required throughout the year, including the unique challenges the summer season presents. From combating summer pests to smart watering habits, here are some great lawn care tips to apply this summer.

Beating Back Pests

The summer heat is not a strong enough deterrent to keep all harmful wildlife away from your property’s precious plantlife. With the high temperatures causing growth spurts in many species of grass and shrubbery, bugs and other pests may flock to your property for an ill-gotten snack. The trick is to use pesticides that protect rather than harm your plants, which can be tricky depending on the species of plant and pest you are dealing with. Also, regular maintenance can prevent pests from taking root and causing undue damage, so it’s important to keep an eye out and take appropriate measures when you notice an incursion.

Water Early and Thoroughly

During the summer months, you can save water by scheduling your sprinklers to go off in the morning, when it’s cooler, rather than waiting for the hot-as-the-sun afternoons. You should also water your plants thoroughly, so that they remain soaked and sated even under the beating sun. Weeding Out Weeds

Weeds can go through somewhat of a growth spurt during the summer months, causing them to take root in your yard and hog the nutrients in the soil, as well as the water, meant for your desired plantlife. During the spring, we can apply what is known as a pre-emergent weed killer application to prevent weeds from taking root in the summer. This is normally followed up by a second round in the summer. However, there are other options to put a halt to the expansion and encroachment of weeds in your yard. Check out our article titled “Stop Weeds Before They Start” to learn more about how Lawn & Turf Landscaping handles weeds during the summer season.
